Major achievements of recent years (3 years):


It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to provide reliable and up-to-date information for the formulation of development plans and administrative activities of the country. The BBS has been responsible for regularly collecting, compiling and publishing various data for the use of planners, public and private research institutes, international organizations and the public engaged in formulating national and local plans. Recently, the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and the Statistics Act 2013 have been formulated. As a result, the scope of work of BBS has expanded. In view of this, the organizational structure of BBS has been redefined and it is being strengthened and rationalized. Under Section 7 of the Statistics Act 2013, surveys have been completed in various census and socio-economic and demographic fields. The fifth census and household census of the country was held on 15-19 March 2011. This is the first time that the 2011 census data has been processed using iCADE Software and ICR machine. Using the digital method, it has been possible to give accurate results of the census in the fastest time. Under this census 05 (five) national reports, 64 (sixty four) district reports and 64 community reports have been published. Besides, 14 (fourteen) monographs and 01 (one) population projection reports have been prepared using the data of Census and Census 2011. Under this project Redatam software and preliminary data of Census 2011 have been uploaded on BBS website through which users can prepare tables, graphs, charts etc. as per their demand. Apart from this, training on ICT has been provided at the departmental level through this project and furniture and various equipments have been provided in the field level offices. In March-May 2013, data collection activities of the third economic census were completed in Bangladesh. Using high-powered software, this is the first time that economic census data has been computerized at the BBS headquarters in the shortest possible time, using state-of-the-art government technology set up locally through the Union Information and Service Center (UISC). A total of 6 reports will be published under the census out of which 01 National Report has been published, 01 Administrative Report and 64 Zila Report will be published soon. The BusinessRegister has undertaken activities under the Economic Census 2013 project. It will be used as the main framework for compiling economic statistics of the country. The business register will contain information on the name, address, legal structure, type of functions, number of manpower employed, average annual production, total assets, etc. of each organization. The Economic Census 2013 conducted the 'Expatriate Income Investment Survey 2018' under the project. The survey provides information on various sectors of investment in expatriate income as well as information on different sectors of savings, information on expatriates and socio-economic status of households, which will play a significant role in formulating proper plans and recommendations for sound investment in expatriate income. Moreover, the preparatory work of Integrated Agricultural Census 2018 including Fisheries and Livestock sector is underway. The final report of Slum Census and Floating Census 2014 has been published. ‌ Size and production of 126 crops have been estimated on a regular basis on an annual basis. Land and irrigation statistics have been prepared. Agricultural Statistics Year 2014 has been published. The report has been prepared after completing the survey of 9 crops under the productivity survey program. The report is published quarterly under the Health and Mortality Status Survey 2014, Education Household Survey, 2014, সি ICT Use and Access by Individuals and Households, 2013 Labor Force Survey, 2013 and Labor Market Information System Project. Under the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project, Vital Statistics of Bangladesh is regularly published on the basis of data collected from 2,012 sample areas across the country through 11 different schedules. The work of publishing the report of 'Climate Change Impact Program on Public Life' is in the final stage. Work is underway to formulate a geo-code system to introduce a well-organized and uniform coding system for all geographical areas of the country. Bangladesh Standard Classification of Occupation (BSCO-6 digit) and Bangladesh Standard Industrial Classification (BSIC-5 digit) are being prepared. Also regular activities of BBS such as monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) are published in the first week of next month. Final GDP for 2014-15 and Provisional GDP for 2015-16 have been published. The basis of Quantum Index of Industrial Production has been changed from 1989-90 to 2005-06. Reports of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2013, Survey of Manufacturing Industries 2012, Compilation of Gender Statistics 2012, Child and Mother Nutrition Survey 2012, Health and Morbidity Status Survey 2012 have been published. The work of publishing the report of Violence Against Women (VAW) Survey-2015 is in the final stage. Food Balance Sheet (2009-13) has been prepared for the first time. Bis of GDP Rebasing for the year 2005-06
